Frozen North

In the north, the land itself is the beast. The cold kills more hunters than beasts ever have. It freezes you and takes your life long before anything with teeth can reach you. Hunters venturing deeper must beware of Tao Tie on Mount Gouwu. A beast with the body of a sheep, a human face, and tiger fangs, it feeds on people, swallowing one after another, never stopping, never full. Farther north, deep in the snow, you may sometimes glimpse a bird carrying a stone toward the sea. That is Jing Wei, a girl who drowned and returned as a bird, sworn to fill the sea that took her life, one stone at a time. She will never succeed, but she has never stopped trying. Everything in the north is patient, but nothing in the north is kind.
