Shaped like a crimson leopard, red from head to tail, with a single horn and five long tails streaming behind it. It dwells on Mount Zhang'e, where nothing grows but veins of jade and green stone. This is Bi Fang's mountain, where fire bursts from the earth and never dies, and no ordinary beast can take a step there. Only the Zheng makes its home in the flames, unafraid; a blaze at its side is a cool breeze on the face. It swallows fire whole and spits it back fiercer than before. Not a spark is its own to kindle, yet every flame on that mountain is a weapon in its hands. It never meets you head-on, but moves unseen beneath the rock, waiting until you pass overhead to erupt through the stone and kill in a single strike. By the time you hear it crack underfoot, it is too late. Eat its heart and you inherit its command over flame. Fire can no longer harm you, and any blaze that nears you can be turned back on your enemies. But from that day on, all warmth leaves your body, and a cold that reaches the bone stays with you. You can swallow every fire in the world, and never warm yourself by a single degree.
状如赤豹，通体赤红，独角一只，身后曳着五条长尾。 它栖在章莪山中。满山无草无木，唯余瑶碧。那是畢方之山，火自地起，无由而燃，寻常兽物一步也立不住。唯有猙能在此安身。它不惧火，火近其身，如清风拂面。 它还能张口将那火吞下，蓄在腹中，再择时喷回敌身，比先前更烈。它自己生不出一星火，可这满山没有主人的野火，尽是它的兵刃。它也不与你正面相争，只伏在岩层之下潜行，静候你行至头顶，才自石中破土而出，一击毙命。等你听见脚下石响，为时已晚。 食其心者，得其吞火吐火之能。火不能伤你，凡近你之焰，皆可反掷伤敌。只是自此，你身上再无一丝暖意，终年彻骨的寒。 你可吞尽天下之火，却暖不了自己一分。
