Shaped like a tiger, its spine bristling with quills, its two wings wide enough to blot out the moon. By the time its shadow crosses the ground, the people beneath it are already running. It hunts the strong. Whoever stands and fights dies first beneath its claws; whoever turns and flees it will not deign to touch. On Mount Gui, the mightier and more fearless the man, the harder it is to escape it, while those who throw down their arms and run are the ones who live. A sword laid against it lands dull as a blow on stone. A volley of arrows falls away spent. A hunter may hack until his arms fail and do no more than scratch an itch. Only the magic arts pierce that iron hide. A man who cannot wield them, though the finest blademaster alive, has no answer to it. Eat its heart, and you take its iron hide, sword, spear, and arrow passing over you like nothing. But the one door that can wound it settles onto you as well. From that day, harm dealt by the arts cuts you twice as deep. Those who dare to fight die first. Those who flee live on.
