For Those Who Come After.
A serpent with four wings, swimming through the air as through water, and it sounds like a struck stone chime. Where it appears, drought follows. When the chime sounds, the world grows hot. Rivers steam away, the earth cracks. It brings no fire, only heat: a flameless swelter that boils the land dry. Eat its heart and you carry that heat. Heat gathers where you stand: you can boil, bake, parch, and turn the water of any living thing to vapour. In the north, where hunters freeze to death on endless ice, you alone stay warm. But the heat never goes out, and it dries you too. Wherever you go, a drought goes with you. You can burn off the deepest cold, and never cool down again.
