Lu Shu · Tiger-striped horse

Shaped like a horse, its head is white as snow, its body marked with the stripes of a tiger, and its tail red as flame. It does not whinny. Instead, it hums to itself, low and soft. The melody has no words, yet everyone who hears it swears it is the lullaby their mother once sang to them. It wanders the hills alone, humming as it goes. It neither startles nor flees at the sight of a man. It simply keeps to its song and passes by as though you were never there. Chase it, and it always stays just beyond your reach. Stop, and its melody lingers among the trees, slow to fade. No hunter willingly kills a Lu Shu. They say the mere sight of one is enough to bless a bloodline. It asks nothing of you, not even reverence, only that your eyes meet it for a fleeting moment. The southern mountains are home to countless beasts that bring death and misfortune. The Lu Shu alone brings neither. To see one is fortune enough for a lifetime.
