For Those Who Come After.
A giant, with yellow serpents hanging from his ears and two more gripped in his hands. The old tale says he chased the sun across the heavens until an unbearable thirst seized him, and he died of thirst upon the road. But a tattered journal found in the Ruin tells another story: there was no sun. What he chased, and what chased him, was a thing of fire, a vast burning shape high in the sky. Again and again he hurled himself into every river he could reach, desperate to quench the flames that clung to him. But the rivers were never enough, and in the end the fire burned through him. Where he fell, his staff slipped from his hand and took root, growing into a forest of peach trees. Now there is another. The journal's final pages tell how its writer ate the giant's heart and became him. Whoever takes the giant's form inherits his dominion over the green world and the earth: raising a forest from a barren staff, bending root and stone to his will. The sun-chasing giant is dead. A new one takes up the staff, and the chase goes on.
一个巨人，双耳垂黄蛇，两手各握一蛇。 旧时传说，他逐日而奔，一路追着太阳横越长空，终究渴死在半途。可乱葬岗中寻得的一本残破札记，记下了另一种说法：那里从来没有太阳。 他所追逐、亦追逐着他的，是一团燃烧之物，一尊高悬天穹的炽然巨影。他一次又一次跃入每一条能及的河流，只为熄灭那紧缠不灭的烈火。可江河终究不够，烈火烧穿了他。他倒下之处，长杖脱手落地，竟就此生根，长成一片桃林。 如今，又有了新的一个。札记最后写道：书写之人食下那颗心，便成了他。凡承继巨人之形者，皆得驾驭草木与大地之力，能令枯杖生出整片森林，能使盘根顽石俯首听命。 逐日的巨人死了，但新一任接过长杖，继续追。
