For Those Who Come After.
A giant, colourful serpent that can swallow elephants whole. It swallows everything. Not prey alone: gemstones, blades, whole hoards of wrought metal have gone down its throat. Yet, once in a while, it disgorges, and what it brings up is the only true medicine in this dead land. It lifts curses: a blight in the blood, an affliction taken from another beast's heart, a doom beyond every other remedy, it undoes them all. The serpent knows what such a thing is worth. It knows the desperate will come, so it vanishes, coiling invisible around the cure it has cast forth, waiting for the hands that reach where they should not. One hunter found it. Years before, he had eaten the heart of a one-eyed beast, and ever since, whenever he gathered his strength, half the world went dark. Knowing nothing of the cure, he saw only treasure gleaming among the disgorged remains and reached in. The instant his fingers closed, the curse broke. The next, the serpent swallowed him whole. It breaks your curse, and takes you with it.
